A CHILDREN'S day care scheme was given a "notice to improve" by Ofsted, despite being run to the letter, according to bosses.

Alphabet's Day Care, based at Corringham Village Hall, Gainsborough, was given the notice following a complaint that Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks were not being carried out properly.

But Jasmine Atkinson, 22, who runs the group, told the Echo it was not based on facts.

She started the group on August 9 and sent off CRB checks for all staff. She and two others already had clean checks.

"We were given an action by Ofsted because some of the CRB checks are not through but what can you do when you have sent all the paperwork off and you're waiting for them to come back?" said Miss Atkinson.

"They take six to eight weeks to come through."

When waiting for checks to come back, the rules are that a member of staff who is CRB checked has to be on the premises for every session.

Miss Atkinson said that is how she was running the place.

Miss Atkinson said: "The person who made the complaint came to me in tears and told me they had lied."

The inspectors, who arrived unannounced, also pulled the centre up on not displaying its public liability insurance certificate – which Miss Atkinson had on the premises.

"I showed the inspectors all the paperwork and they have since contacted me to say they are happy with everything," she said.

But while Ofsted now says she is meeting all the requirements, a new report to give her a clean bill, will not be published until tomorrow – more than a week after the notice was given and the report made public.

"It's just not what you want when you're starting out in trying to run a business," said Miss Atkinson, who is studying a degree in Early Years Professional Studies.

Until the mum-of-one, of Gainsborough, opened Alphabet's there had been no child care provision in the village since Christmas.

And it is one of the only places open for children, including a summer school, for families in Hemswell, Blyton and Corringham.

Helen Hepworth, 35, has been dropping her son Jack, five, off at the centre while he is on summer break from school.

"He really loves it and it's a really good facility," said Mrs Hepworth, of Trinity Street, Gainsborough.

"They do something different every day and he's always really happy when he comes home.

"It's definitely needed in the area and I heard about this through a friend.

"It's fantastic and really good value for money."

“My Girlfriend is a childminder who also had an Ofsted inspector arrive unonnounced, as she was apparently over her numbers, this also was a lie, but didnt stop her getting very upset about it, after she was interviewed and her records checked, the inspector agreed that they had been misinformed, the annoying thing about this is that the person who reported her was another childminder in the village, who didnt have much work during the holidays (doesnt take much working out why she made the complaint - trying to get more business methinks). Maybe if Ofsted started charging these small minded petty people for wasting their time they could spend it more constructively!!”
