Dogs have their day for adoption
THE local branch of national dog rescue is opening its doors for a fun-filled family open day.
Jerry Green Dog Rescue in Algarkirk near Boston will host its annual open day on Sunday, August 11 to raise awareness of the work it does in rescuing and re-homing unwanted dogs. The open day falls in line with dog adoption month.
The event will feature a fun dog show, dog demonstrations, a rescue dog parade, canine first aid, behavioural advice, a children's treasure hunt, cake stall and a barbecue.
The charity has five centres in Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire and has already re-homed 502 dogs in the past 12 months.
Centre manager Jo Hickson said:"The day is all about educating the public about rescue dogs and ensuring that people understand how to care for their dog.
"Prospective dog owners must understand key aspects of dog handling including food and nutrition. Caring for a dog is a huge responsibility."
Open days at the South Lincolnshire centre have always been popular with the public and Jerry Green Dog Rescue is hoping this year's event will be no different.
The open day will take place on Sunday from 11.30am until 4.30pm.
Entrance costs £1 and under 16s can get in for free.
The dogs up for re-homing come from different backgrounds.
Because of her traumatic past, nine-year-old lurcher Lucy has become very dependent on being with people and has therefore spent a long time with Jerry Green Dog Rescue.
Lucy likes children and similar sized dogs, loves to be with people and is very friendly with strangers. She has had a few health issues in the past but this is controlled with regular.
Lucy did go into a private home for a short period of time and was wonderful until it came to being left alone, when she would get too upset and had to be returned to Jerry Green Dog Rescue, so she would make the perfect companion for someone who loves to be with their dogs all the time.
The South Lincolnshire centre can be found off the A17 near Algarkirk, Lincolnshire PE20 2BB.
