A birthday bash will be held for a revamped venue when Lincoln Drill Hall celebrates its fifth birthday this week.

But as those running the venue gear up for a party, they have also been able to look back at some of the highs and lows of the Drill Hall's colourful history.

Decades ago the venue played host to some of the biggest bands in the world, including the legendary Rolling Stones.

But it was forced to close in 1999 after a massive electrical failure.

After a 2000-strong petition and more than £2 million raised, the hall's doors were flung open once again in March 2004 – to the delight of its loyal Lincolnshire patrons.

Manager Simon Hollingworth said: "I think and hope that in the five years we have been here we have become integral to the well-being of the city."

It is more than 40 years since the hall's heyday when Mick Jagger strutted his stuff across the stage, but it is still of great importance to the city and its people.
