Drink-driver had child, 2, in car as he ran over his girlfriend in Gainsborough

A bare-chested drink-driver, who had a two-year-old child in the back of his car when he ran over his girlfriend, has been jailed for nine months.

Lincoln Crown Court heard that Scott Law got behind the wheel after an argument with partner Suzanne Scawthon, who had been driving.

She was upset and walking away after she stopped on The Belt Road in Gainsborough.

Phil Howes, prosecuting, said: "Miss Scawthon got out and was upset and angry. Law was bare-chested and urinated against the side of the car. He was unsteady on his feet.

"He got into the driver's seat, drove up behind her, knocking her on to the ground. She escaped with minor grazing."

Law's alcohol content of 88 milligrams was more than twice the legal limit of 35mg. He also had vision problems after a crash seven years ago.

Law, 33, of Flat Tops, Normanby by Spital, admitted dangerous driving, drink-driving, driving without a licence and without insurance on Thursday, August 9. He was disqualified for six years.

Judge Sean Morris said: "You were driving up the road unable to see properly and full of drink. You are a menace when it comes to cars. It is time you learned your lesson. You can sit in prison, think about your life and what you have done."

Sunil Khanna, defending, said: "He turned to alcohol due to depression and had drunk between four and five bottles of wine."
