AN event to promote road safety awareness amongst young teenagers was held at Skegness Stadium on Saturday.

The newly-established Young Driver's Academy held its first course at the venue, to help educate youngsters aged 14 to 17 about good driver attitude and to make them more aware of potential dangers on the roads.

The academy has been set up by local driving instructors Stuart Baker and Robert Taylor-Watson who hope it will help reduce the number of road accidents amongst young people.

Stuart said: "The event was a great success and the students really enjoyed the chance to get behind the wheel for the first time on the stadium track.

"Perhaps more surprisingly they also seemed to enjoy the theory side to the day which got them thinking about some of the causes of accidents amongst young drivers.

"We hope that by starting their education early, they will learn more over a period of time making them better drivers, instead of getting behind the wheel aged 17 and having only three to four months before they are out on the roads on their own."

The academy has future courses scheduled for August 18 and October 27, for more information visit www.youngdriversacademy.org.uk
