Drop in MPs expenses
SECOND home claims by county MPs fell dramatically in the months after the expenses scandal, according to figures published yesterday.
Former Lincoln MP Gillian Merron, who lost her seat at the election, claimed nothing between July and December last year.
Former Sleaford and North Hykeham MP Douglas Hogg, who stood down in the wake of revelations over his claims, also claimed nothing according to the database, as did Gainsborough MP Edward Leigh.
Louth and Horncastle MP Sir Peter Tapsell claimed £12,036 in rent, council tax and utilities, while Boston and Skegness MP Mark Simmonds claimed £3,944 in mortgage interest and bills for his second home.
