E4's My Mad Fat Diary based on life of Lincolnshire-born writer gets second series
Television drama My Mad Fat Diary, based on the real-life of a Lincolnshire-born writer, has been re-commissioned for a second series.
In 1989, Rae Earl was a 16-year-old boy-mad Morrissey fan who had just been released from a psychiatric ward when she began writing her diaries.

In 2007, they were published and soon became a best-seller.
Twenty-four years after Rae, from Stamford, first put pen to paper, her diaries were transformed for the small screen as E4's My Mad Fat Diary, made up of six hour-long episodes, with rising star Sharon Rooney playing the role of Rae.

The first series concludes tonight at 10pm, but E4 has now confirmed the show will return for six more episodes.

TV critics have praised the show for its fresh take on mental health issues and body image.

“Its not a bad series but I can't see it doing much for lincolnshire tourism since it depicts quite a bleak picture of the area.”
