The world championships of one of the world's most bizarre sports takes place in the county this weekend.

The Rowntree's Randoms Egg Throwing championship – the sport's equivalent of the Olympics – will draw in wacky but dedicated competitors from across the globe.

The finals, which take place in Swaton near Sleaford on Sunday, will see participants lock horns in a series of events whose defining goal is not to suck eggs, but to chuck them.

Whether it is with a catapult or the human hand, eggs will be cluttering the skyline over Sleaford until winners emerge from the melee.

And one person who is looking forward to this weekend's event more than anyone else is a current world champion – Lincolnshire's very own Opal Uptonbrooker, from Swaton.

She is the world champion of Russian Egg Roulette – an event that involves smashing eggs against the forehead.

Mrs Uptonbrooker has been gearing up for the competition by throwing chicken eggs at her husband Andrew Brooker.

"This is the world cup of egg throwing," she said.

"We will have people from New Zealand, Latvia, Poland, Holland, America.

"Egg throwing is definitely growing and growing at the moment."
