Former England cricket captain Alec Stewart is to be the guest speaker at Lincoln Sportsman's Club's first black tie dinner of the new season.

The ex-wicketkeeper, who is now part of the BBC Test Match Special team, will talk at the event on Thursday, October 4 at the Bentley Hotel.

Since 1979, the club have raised and donated over £130,000 to local sporting talent.

During the club year 2011/12, a total of £5,200 was donated to15 athletes from six sports.

The good work of the club over the years has been highlighted recently by being able to say that it played its part in financially supporting London 2012 Olympians & Paralympians Kate Haywood, Lizzie Simmonds, Sophie Allen and Rob Welbourn among others.

There are still tickets available for group tables and individuals for this event which includes a 5 course dinner at £32 for members and £42 for non members.

Comedian Jimmy Bright will also be present.

The event starts at 7.30pm.
