Excitement builds for Lincoln Steampunk event
Excitement is building for the arrival of Europe's largest Steampunk event in Lincoln.
Weekend at the Asylum, which takes place from September 13-15, has been organised by Lincoln BIG to celebrate vintage art, literature, music, fashion, comedy and of course, good fun.
The city will be buzzing with eye-catching visitors in retro costume.
On show will be a Regency Masonic lodge, a Victorian university and a medieval castle.

Serious Steampunks will be spotted wearing a mix of Victorian-style dress, top
hats, brass goggles and all manner of other fantastic accessories.
And alongside the fancy dress will be a range of events and activities.
A month-long Steampunk art exhibition is now on at The Collection in Lincoln, which will also be home to the Steampunk Film Festival over the weekend. Admission is free.
The weekend kicks off with an informal meet-up at Widow Cullen’s Well in
Steep Hill on Thursday evening (Sept 12) when Steampunks begin to gather in
the upstairs bar from early evening onwards.
On Friday afternoon (Sept 13) there’s the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at The Assembly
Rooms in Bailgate, from 2.45pm to 4.30pm. An 'ever-flowing tea pot' will be
accompanied by sandwiches, cake and scones. This is designed to be the perfect
ice-breaker for newcomers to The Asylum. Tickets cost £6.50.
Friday features also include Lady Elsie's fashion show, a stand-up comedy night, and music hall entertainment.
Saturday and Sunday are packed with daytime
fun, including competitions, parades, exhibitions, a literary festival, a convivial
programme of talks, panels and presentations and the 'bazaar eclectica'
These features are primarily based at the Assembly Rooms and the Castle and admission is provided by wearing a festival wristband.
The main indoor market will be at Westgate Academy in Westgate with more stalls inside Lincoln Castle.
Also on Saturday, there will be the festival’s opening Banner Parade inside the
Castle and the first Great Brass Button Hunt, which takes place from noon until
Saturday night sees the sell-out Fifth Annual Empire Ball at The Assembly Rooms,
starting at 7.30pm. The evening will feature live music from Rachel Hayward
“Priestess of Pan” and Professor Elemental “Steampunk Rap”, as well as a hot
and cold buffet.
On Sunday , there’s a chance to relax at the Dead Dog Party
at the Assembly Rooms. It will feature the grand steampunk quiz and a
sausage and mash supper. Cost £7.
