Following the resolution of this season's title race last week, the main focus in the WJ Harrison League rests on who will claim the runners-up position.

Second-placed FC Rustons United remain favourites over Waddington United who climbed back into third place after Saturday's games.

Rustons, in their penultimate home game, hosted Market Rasen Town, who were playing their final away game.

At half-time Rustons were 2-1 behind but stepped up a gear to win 3-2 with goals from Alex Knibbs (his 31st of the season), Dan Mallard and Joe Smith. Rasen's goals were scored by James Bennett and a first for the side from James Appleyard.

Metheringham's 3-3 draw against Ivy Tavern CSA allowed Waddington United to move back into third place as they narrowly beat second-bottom side Pride FC 1-0 with a goal from Glen Nesbitt.

FC Rustons are now seven points ahead of Waddington, needing one win from their final two games (at home to Fulbeck and away to Market Rasen). Waddington, meanwhile, have four games remaining with the same two opponents to play away and home matches against Blacksmiths and Ivy Tavern.

Metheringham, in their penultimate game, led fifth-placed Ivy Tavern CSA three times but a Terry MacDougall goal six minutes from time saw Ivy share the points in a 3-3 draw. Megs' scorers were Mark Jordan, Ash Woodhall and Matt Robinson with Billy Munro, Rick Robinson scoring Ivy's others.

Champions Cherry Knights closed their home league programme with their seventh league double of the season, defeating Horncastle Town 4-0.

It was the second game in a row that the league's second lowest scorers had failed to find the net. On target for Cherry was Paul Nicholson who bagged a brace to take his season tally to 32 with Jason Perrin and Alistair Baker scoring the other two.

In mid-table, Fulbeck United moved up two places to sixth following a 3-0 victory against Ruston Sports who were playing their final league game.

They leapfrogged over Rustons and with six games remaining they can expect to finish even higher. Their goals came from James Barnett, with two, and Chris Bates.

The ties for the "bottom four" competition, the Alan Hodds Painters-sponsored Horace Franklin Cup, have been decided with Market Rasen set to play Blacksmiths and Horncastle Town (last season's losing finalists) against Pride. These ties will be played on April 10.
