And John Siddle, of Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership, believes the reduction is a result of hard work done by a range of organisations.

He said: "Any reduction in fatalities is a good thing.

"Whenever there is a reduction it is as a result of many factors and part of that is because drivers are more aware of road safety than they were before.

"Car technology also plays its part.

"Promoting things like we do whether it be drink driving, speed awareness or driver training all helps.

"But it is not just us, there are lots of other groups who contribute to that."

Mr Siddle revealed that the Road Safety Partnership would be promoting the importance of wearing a cycle helmet in 2013.

He said: "We have seen an increase in the number of pedal cycle incidents.

"We will be promoting the importance of wearing a helmet as although we don't have data to say how many lives they save, they can contribute to doing so.

"Since the Olympics and because of the recession, more people are taking to their bikes so it is important."

Over the festive period, three people died on the county's roads and two young sisters from Spalding also died in a crash at Wisbech, Cambridgeshire.

Heavy rock musician Dean Hocking, 23, from Sleaford and 37-year-old Waddington man, Wayne East, were killed on the A15 at Leasingham on December 27.

Meanwhile, Christopher Jones, 23, from near Grantham, died on Christmas Day after a two car collision on Sleaford Road, Metheringham.

Whats this John, no mention of globally reduced speed limits, "safety" cameras or all those yellow backed speed limit signs and silly coloured surfacings that all cost the Tax Payer a fortune? Im pleased youve wasted years of tax payers money on all that rubbish John.”

“If Mr Siddle and his colleagues are keen to accept the credit for this (welcome) reduction in road deaths.

I wonder however, whether we will see them accepting any responsibility for any increases that may happen in the future?

It is more likely they will blame anyone but themselves - so they shouldn't go around trying to get credit for this.”
