Family Fitness fun day to promote healthier living in Lincoln

Families in Lincoln are being invited to kick-start their new year by taking part in a Family Fitness fun day.

The City of Lincoln Council, NHS Lincolnshire and ActiveNation are running the event on January 12 with an array of healthy activities.

The aim is to provide the opportunity to try out taster sessions in a variety of sports such as dodgeball and martial arts, tackling the climbing wall and for those feeling particularly energetic there will be an assault course challenge.

Dean Reed, City of Lincoln Council Neighbourhood Youth Sports Coordinator said: "It's a new year and this is the perfect way for families to kick start a healthier 2013.

"Having the support of your family is a great way to get healthier as you can motivate each other.

"This event is not only a chance to try some sports you might not have come across before, but also learn about other ways to improve your health such as through your diet.

"There will be a selection of fresh foods on the day for people to try and even a blindfolded food challenge."

The fun day has been arranged as part of the launch of a 12-week programme called FitKids, aimed at getting children and parents in better shape through exercise and healthier lifestyle choices.

Participants on the day will be given more information on the activities being run as part of FitKids, and even have the chance to earn prizes.

All activities on the day are suitable for children aged six and over and run from 10am to 4pm at The Showroom on Tritton Road in Lincoln. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

There is no need to book any of the free activities, which are run by qualified coaches, just drop in on the day.
