Farmers are blamed for 'the big stink'
A foul odour that plagued a Lincolnshire town has finally receded.
The authorities investigated the smell around North Hykeham after complaints from the public.
After no single source was found the matter was discussed at a town council meeting. North Kesteven District Council now says the odour appears to have been caused by multiple farms spreading products on their fields.
Wallace Lee, chairman of North Hykeham Town Council's environment committee, said the weather had been a factor.

"It seems all the farms were a bit late this year," he said.
"The dry start to the year and the wet summer has put them back. There was a narrow window and they all did it at the same time. We will discuss with district council if there is a different way it could be dealt with next year."
