Sausage and mash are festival treat
Bangers and mash was the dish of the day as the Lincoln Sausage and Potato Festival took over part of the city's uphill area.
Hundreds of visitors descended on the Castle Hill square to celebrate the county's two trademark foods and mark the Year of the Potato.

Local produce, including venison, Lincolnshire sausages and organic vegetables were on sale and children were entertained in a craft tent.
Stuart Fitzgerald (42), travelled from Grimsby with his wife and three children.
"It's been a really good day," he said.
"It's been nice to celebrate some of the things that make Lincolnshire well known and to support the people who produce locally-grown food.
"The kids really enjoyed the entertainment put on for them, such as the card-making and areas for crafts.
"I really liked the town crier competition and the cook-off. It's really nice to see Lincolnshire people getting together to celebrate what the county has to offer."
Michelin starred chef Pierre Koffman judged some of the best bangers and mash recipes and live cookery demonstrations took place throughout the day.
The free event also offered live performances from entertainers Cosmic Sausages and a Mr Potato Head design competition.

“Lincs sausages are great , even if they can't compare with a great German Bratwurst, which i get here regularly. Has anyone ever thought of a Lincswurst? more horse, less trotter. mmmm
And definitely less potatoe!”

“NO OFFENCE... But the English CANNOT make a good sausage. Always making a BIG hey-ho and 'save the lincolnshire sausage'! The Irish make real sausages if anyone ever goes over to Northern Ireland try thier spicey beef and then you'll know what a sausage is.. And dont get me started on the bread... No Offence people but we're rubbish at most things in this country eh!”

“The sausage part was great but the potato part needs a lot of work. Everything was crammed into the Cathedral square which meant it was a bit difficult to move through the crowds at times without being jostled when trying to eat and queuing was haphazard as there was little space! Yet the Castle grounds were virtually empty. I was expecting more on the potato front than a van selling baked potatoes and two vans selling potatoes with sausages. What about roast potatoes, chips, boiled, etc? I hope this is repeated next year but more thought and effort is put in to the potato side of things as we all know the local potatoes are fab! Also - how about some seats for people to sit on whilst eating/drinking? All that space in the Castle ground could have been utilised for that. Other than that though, the sausages were fantastic and it's great that local produce is being given a showcase - more foodie events like this please!”

“A great day, most enjoyable as always. Plenty of people there and some great excellent quality food on offer.
However, the advertising in both the Echo and local Radio was good. But there was no roadside advertising this year, which the Rotary club always ensured went up, which would have possibly boosted numbers by highlighting the event to those entering the city. Potatoe event in Castle was abit poor, not many potatoe foods on offer. Maybe this could have been fitted into castle square also on the carpark area with a marquee, with the town cryer comp done in front of the Cathedral, as i'm sure the Castle would have cost alot of money to hire.”
