Flooding risk among delays for new Skegness school
A NEW primary school in Skegness will not be open until next year, the Target can reveal.
Lincolnshire County Council is still progressing with plans for a brand new primary academy in Skegness, which had been due to open this September.
Issues such as coastal flooding risk and building restrictions on the coast have caused delays to the project.
The council had identified that a new school was needed from this year due to increasing birth rates and inward migration to the Skegness area, leading to an increase in demand for school places.

Now more than 100 new intake are being accommodated at Skegness Infant Academy while the new school progresses.
The Greenwood Dale Academy Trust was approved last October by the Department for Education to become the operator of the new primary academy.
The Trust already operates Skegness Academy, Skegness Infant and Junior Academies as well as Ingoldmells Academy and Mablethorpe Primary Academy.
Debbie Barnes, Director of Children's Services at Lincolnshire County Council said: "The school site has been identified and we are progressing through the planning process.
"There have been several elements that have taken longer to agree than originally estimated to ensure that the build complies with all the requirements of building a new school so close to the coast, whilst considering and limiting the impact on local residents.
"We are now working to an opening of September 2014 subject to planning being approved.
"The intention is to start on site later this year to ensure a timely completion."
The academy will be built off Burgh Road, opposite Skegness Academy.
Emma Hadley, executive principal for the Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust, said improvements have been made to Skegness Infant Academy to cater for up to 120 additional children.
She said: ""The Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust was delighted to admit additional reception children into the Skegness Infant Academy this September.
"A new classroom space has been made available in the children's centre and an extension to the academy buildings is due for completion mid-November.
"A new member of staff has also been appointed.
"We are working closely with Lincolnshire County Council to agree admissions criteria for the new primary school and we will consult with parents before any decisions are made about which children will move over to the new academy."
