Follow the footpaths for an adventure around Boston

THERE'S the chance to go on an adventure along the pavements of Boston by taking part in a photography walk on Saturday (September 15).

 

The walk, organised by The Alchemy Project, takes the form of an urban ramble led by social artist Katie Smith – and photographers of all standards are welcome.

 

"Most of us would agree that we use urban footpaths because they are the quickest route from A to B," said Katie.

 

"In Alchemy's second photo-walk I hope to turn footpath walking into an adventure, uncovering the hidden treasures of these well-trodden routes.

 

"Walkers will become footpath tourists, stopping along the way to photograph their finds which could be architecture, plant life or the people they meet.

 

"I hope the walk will encourage walkers and photographers alike to see the world in a new way in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere."

 

The walks are the latest in a series of events organised by The Alchemy Project aimed at bringing members of the town's culturally-diverse communities together to find out more about each other and where they live.

 

The walks are open to everyone, with or without a camera, and a phone camera will be good enough to take pictures with.

  

Walkers will meet at Boston railway station at 2pm and the walk will take about 90 minutes. Under 14s are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.

Images created by photographers on the first walk, which took place two weeks ago, are now being gathered together online and may eventually feature in an exhibition in the town.

 

The Alchemy Project is attempting to unravel the myths, misunderstandings and prejudices associated with the changes and challenges that Boston and the surrounding area face.

 

The  project will initially run until March 2013 and is an initiative conceived by JUST Lincolnshire, the county's equality and human rights organisation. It is being co-ordinated by Lincoln-based arts consultants cultural solutions UK.

 

It is funded by the Community Development Foundation and other partners are Boston College, Boston Borough Council, South Lincolnshire Council for Voluntary Service, the Aegis Trust, Victim Support, Stop Hate UK and the Boston Community Safety Partnership.
