Parking will be free on Tuesday market days in a Lincolnshire town until a £500,000 regeneration project is complete at the end of April.

Market Street in Gainsborough has been closed since last month while workers install wider pavements, better signs, bins and seats, as well as improved lighting.

West Lindsey council leader Burt Keimach said: "We hope it will increase footfall and trade in the town centre during the improvement works.

Matthew Lonsdale, of Emmaloos coffee house and cafe in Market Street, said the free parking was an excellent idea.

"I totally support it and it is a very sensible thing to do," he said.

"Anything that brings more people into town helps the market and helps us at the same time."
