Police and Crime Commissioner for Lincolnshire Alan Hardwick says the decision of three police forces to pull out of a deal to outsource some services to G4S has no impact on the private firm's agreement with Lincolnshire Police.

Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire forces were looking at contracting G4S to provide joint IT and human resources.

Mr Hardwick said: "I have had nothing at all to do with the discussions that have led to this decision and things will continue as they are in Lincolnshire.

"What is suitable in one area may not be suitable in another.

"This news has no effect on the agreement between Lincolnshire Police and G4S and services will continue as normal."

“I love how he got the "I've had nothing to do with this" , I'm afraid the words going to hell in a hand cart spring to mind and I'm with the last three posters as far as opinion goes. When it all goes horribly wrong as it will do the Govt can say "but that's nothing to do with us, it's all the fault of the PCC aka Fallguy.”

“I don't see that taking expensively trained police officers out of custody suites or away from the more mundane roles and putting them back on the front line as being such a bad thing.

Despite the G4S Olympic debacale, if there are enough suitably trained competent G4S people manning the desks then get the real officers out there on the streets doing what we've spent a lot of money training them to do. If this saves us money then where's the problem.

Maybe Lincolnshire are leading the way and other forces don't have the same insight, maybe they've got this completely wrong. Only time will tell but the initiative seems sensible.”

“I thought (but I may be wrong) that part of this contract was the development of custody suite at Nettleham, but this PCC has knocked that on the head. What happens to the money that was earmarked for that project? Is it going to be refunded to the Police or has G4S just had a 'bonus' for nothing?”

“So Lincolnshire Police are the only ones in to privatise it's services. Clearly the bosses of Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire are brighter than Lincolnshires.”

    “Agreed, NullSleep.

Same goes for Alan Hardwick, a former journalist who is apparently unaware of the difference between "has no effect" and "will not affect".”

“Shame, hopefully they just won't renew the contract.”
