Gainsborough Trinity 1 Stalybridge 2

Gainsborough Trinity's winning run came to a disappointing end following a 2-1 defeat by Stalybridge Celtic at the Northolme.

Seven

wins from seven games did not become eight as Stalybridge staged a

second half comeback. Goals from Mitchell Austin and Kelvin Bleau cancelled

out Greg Young's fifth-minute strike as the Blues suffered only

their second defeat in 13 games. 

There were three changes to the Trinity starting line-up. Dominic

Knowles and Darryn Stamp started up front in place of Bradley Barraclough

and Paul Connor who were in the Blues' attack last Monday night at Bradford Park

Avenue. Craig Nelthorpe also came into the side in place of Mark Wilson.

Just

five minutes in, Trinity were a goal ahead when Greg Young headed home a

Jamie Yates corner. Minutes later, Craig Nelthorpe tested the

Stalybridge keeper with a low shot which Cairns tipped around the post

during a sustained period of pressure for the home side.

But

Stalybridge put together a move of their own, with midfielder Greg

Wilkinson hitting a stinging shot which Jan Budtz needed two attempts to

save just before the half time break..

Trinity got off to a poor start to the second half when Stalybridge levelled through a low drive

from Mitchell Austin, following an uncharacteristic mistake from Jonathan D'Laryea on the

edge of the area.

Hawkridge replaced Yates 10 minutes into the second

half and was soon in the action combining with Knowles, who's shot was

too weak to beat Cairns.Then a great move started by Hawkridge set Wilde

off down the wing and his cross was headed back accross by Stamp.

But Nelthorpe,waiting in the middle, hit the ball over the crossbar.

Twenty

two minutes into the second half and Stalybridge took the lead. A great

run by defender Kevin Bleau saw him beat the defence with a one-two and then hit a shot under the sprawling Budtz. Trinity came back with a sustained period of pressure in the latter

stages of the game, but despite shots by Hawkridge and Nelthorpe,

Stalybridge left Lincolnshire with all three points.
