Gainsborough Trinity sign former Lincoln City midfielder Ciaran Toner
Gainsborough Trinity boss Steve Housham has snapped up former Lincoln City and Grimsby Town midfielder Ciaran Toner.
The 32-year-old has spent a season out from playing, having concentrated on his role as a coach at Rotherham United.
However, Trinity boss Housham has suggested he may go straight into the starting line-up of the Skrill North game against AFC Barrow at the Northolme tomorrow (3pm).
“He didn’t play last season,” said Housham. “It might be case he starts from the bench, but he looked sharp at training, so I could bring him in to start.”

Housham will be hoping the combative midfielder will bring much needed steel to the Blues, who have yet to secure a point this season and sit rock bottom of the table.
“During games we have been in situations where we go a goal down and the heads drop, the body language goes and we concede again,” said Housham.
“Hopefully, bringing in someone like Ciaran will give us that experience and that leadership we need in the middle of the park.
“We lost an experienced player in Ryan Williams this week due to work commitments, so it’s good to be able to bring another person who has that knowledge.”
Housham revealed that he is also still tracking a centre back.
However, he is not sure if he will be able to bring one in ahead of tomorrow’s game.
“I’ve been trying for the last couple of weeks,” said Housham. “I’m still making phone calls and getting in touch with people, but it is a tricky situation.”
