Games: History: Legends of War
History: Legends of War. PS3 (reviewed), PS Vita, Xbox 360, PC. Publisher: PQube. Rating: 7/10.
The American campaign against the Germans in occupied France in 1944 has been the subject of many great video games and a few not-so-great ones.
Fortunately History: Legends of War falls into the former camp. This turn based strategy puts you in charge of General George S. Patton's Third Army as it fights its way across Western Europe in a series of set missions.
Before getting down to the nitty gritty of combat, you get to choose each individual man on your force, recruit new soldiers and equipment and buy upgrades for your units with 'prestige points' that you earn during missions.

As the mission begins, your guys (and tanks) are set out on the 3D map and you then move each one individually – they even have their own names like 'David McConnell' or 'Augie Smith' – into the fog of war and uncover German soldiers who you then attack or get attacked by.
There are 36 different unit types available, graphics are good, AI is excellent, and this is possibly the easiest to learn strategy game ever devised.
It's simple but addictive and before long you start getting attached to your little guys. It's a shame you can't run the enemy over with your tanks though.
