"Gary, who has signed a contract which will run initially until the end of the season, will take charge with immediate effect with his first game as manager being Saturday's Blue Square Bet Premier trip to Woking.

"Grant Brown and Chris Moyses, who have overseen first team affairs for the last two fixtures, will provide support to Gary, who returns to Sincil Bank having previously spent four successful years at the club as assistant to Keith Alexander."

Simpson's appointment means he returns to the club he left in 2006. Having been appointed in 2002 as Keith Alexander's assistant, he helped lead the club to four consecutive spells in the League Two play-offs.

“Heading back under the rock? It is important to note I didn't call you a fanatacist and have at times been complimentary of your points. But I don't like people undermining the club by making things up. All I have done is pick you up when you are wrong. You are very good at dishing out unkind comments to the board, but apparently have spat your dummy out when you get it back.

You are quite correct I do live in the south, Croydon in fact. I am 30 and been a fan since 15 when i worked in and around the club and I make my way to about 15 games a season. I listen to roughly 20 games and read the match report for 46+. This is all information freely available within my posts on here. I watch a lot of football live, play and coach a lot and go to a lot of sports live. Gives me a good context to put all matters Lincoln in. I always enjoy others points of view and debates on Lincoln. There are people with great insights on here, but only one who pretends to know things who is about to quit his third user name. Another dash of information, I spent two years in Uni holidays working in a chicken processing plant, so perhaps I was in the pay of the real Chicken Bob...

On a lighter note, just getting to the Woking ground now and hoping this game won't be as bad as the last time Lincoln came to Surrey. Carshalton.”

“EMG - very predictable that you would use this news as a way of yet another personal attack on me and suggesting this proves that I am a fantasist.

Frankly I don't care what you think EMG. From comments you have made previously it is clear you are aged around 30, university educated, living in the south of England and you get to (at most) 10 - 15 games a season which coincide with visits back to Lincoln to see mummy and daddy who supported you while you were away at "Uni" (your terminology). As someone who has supported the Imps for well over 50 years (most of this time as a season ticket holder) I am not going to take lessons from someone as smug as you, who comes onto this website to give lots of opinions but doesn't get to many games.

Now, onto the more important matter. Yes, I was wrong this time. My 'source' gave me information on (very) good authority and this information turned out to be incorrect. There is only two conclusions that can be made. Either (1) Bob changed his mind, or (2) my 'source' was 'bowled a googly' to flush him out. I am very concerned that it might be the latter. If this is the case then I have inadvertently exposed my source, for which I am very sorry. In the interests of protecting my source, ChickenBob will not be posting on here for a very long time. Perhaps never again.

Before I leave, I would just ask everyone to consider one thing. If I was the internet fantasist that EMG would like you to believe, then why did I so vehemently state twice that Simpson would not get the job? Don't you think I would have been more vague if I was making it all up????? Surely my emphatic statements (which proved to be wrong) are proof that I am actually genuine, and not the Walter Mitty character that EMG would have you believe.

I know the truth and I don't particularly care what EMG or anyone else thinks.”

“Were we the better team, when we was not capable of the most important part of the game - scoring?
You could say we was like a high jumper with a great run up, only to head butt the bar.”

“I do hope GS does well, but we do not want ove the top stuff, and I agree with Sweepclean on that point. It was good to see Grant used wingers, and the ball on the floor for the first time in a while, what a breath of fresh air. And in the last game it was a real shame for the players to have the game stolen from them, after the effort put in, and to see such disgusting refereeing, where do they get them from in this league. Yes we had the chances, but I think with a referee of this type it knocks it out of the players. He is a big card man at least 3 yellow in most matches, 6 red overall this season so far.

    come on boys”

“Whoever saw Tuesday's game will know that we had plenty of width and that we are very good when we play the ball on the ground, but we just need to be more clinical in front of goal.
We could have had 7 or even 8 goals on Tuesday night before Mansfield scored we were that much better than them.
But when Simpson was here last time let's not forget we didn't play the ball on the ground but mostly it was in the air, but that's no good for the size of our players in our team,so I do hope he doesn't go down that route again.
But I do believe we are capable of getting the 15pts to keep us up if we play like we did on Tuesday night with a slight improvement in front of goal.
A win at Woking would be a great start.
    A”

“Best wishes to Gary. He needs to get a very quick appreciation of the squad which hopefully Grant can help with. He then needs to change the tactics and mindset from the negative nick a goal and defend, playing without any width where we compete for one pass in every 2 or 3.

I'll be at Woking on Saturday hoping that we can start with a positive result.

    Up the Imps”
