Gary Simpson hopes to boost Lincoln City's coffers with FA Cup run
Lincoln City boss Gary Simpson is hoping a run in the FA Cup will boost Lincoln City’s coffers as he aims to increase his budget ahead of the January transfer window.
The Imps take on Worcester City at Kidderminster’s Aggborough Stadium this weekend in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round.
There is £12,500 prize money up for grabs, plus the chance of a money-spinning first round tie in Sheffield United, Coventry City and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
And while Simpson has kept a bit of cash aside for a loan signing, he admitted a cup run could help him greatly.

“A cup run will help us,” said Simpson. “We have gone as far as we can in terms of the budget.
“The board have been brilliant in what we have tried to do since the pre-season with the players we have brought in and putting good players on two-year deals.
“I had left a bit for a loan, that might change if we can have a bit of a run in the cup. So it is big and what we need to do is get a good result next week.
“The board have been great, they try and help you out in every way. I cannot knock them.
“What I set out to do, is more what they wanted to do and they backed me on that, and we saw the benefits of that in the earlier stages of the season.
“The next step now is if we can get through a couple of rounds there might be a bit more there. The crowds have been good and that is positive and that all comes back into the coffers.”
