Glisten sweet factory closes costing 87 Skegness jobs
Confectionery business Glisten has confirmed that it will close its Skegness factory.
Some 87 people are currently employed at the site.
Glisten will transfer manufacturing from the Skegness site, with the majority going to its Leicester plant and the remainder to its plant in the Czech Republic.
The move follows full consultation with all employees and will see the site close at the end of March 2014.

All 87 employees at the plant have been offered roles at other sites within the Group in the UK.
Managing Director, Mark Adcock, said: “This was a difficult decision and was only taken after a full discussion of all available options, including suggestions from both East Lindsey District Council and Lincolnshire County Council with regards to possible alternative sites in Skegness for future expansion.
“Unfortunately, none of the proposed options addressed the fundamental issue of the cost and feasibility of increasing our manufacturing capacity in Skegness, set against the fact that we have spare capacity at our other production facilities.
“I have a responsibility to all Glisten employees and we have to ensure the best and most cost-effective use of our available resources to meet the demands of the major retail customers who are fundamental to our business and continued growth.
“We are holding one-to-one meetings with all staff next week to discuss the different options available to them. For those employees who do not wish to take up jobs at our other production facilities, we are providing enhanced redundancy packages and extensive advice and support in seeking employment elsewhere.”
Glisten is one of the UK’s leading independent confectionery manufacturers and part of the Raisio Group. Established for over 100 years, it produces an extensive range of private label and own-brand boiled sweets, fruit gums, jellies, toffees, chocolates and popcorn for UK retailers.
