Gold Tops put up a tremendous fight in Division Two encounter

Boston and District Athletic Club representatives put up a terrific struggle in an attempt to retain their place in Division two of the North of England Track and Field League in the third match in the series.

Scrapping for every point in their home fixture, organised at Grantham's South Kesteven Stadium, the Gold Tops finished in fifth place on the day and, with one fixture remaining, now find themselves in fifth position in the league standings.

In good conditions, there were four winners at Grantham with Jake Brittain returning from injury to win the B 110m hurdles in 18.3 seconds.

Jake also claimed third place in the pole vault, clearing 3.90m and fourth in the high jump, going over 1.70m.

Jeremy Baily won the B triple jump with a leap of 12.23m and added a third place in the B Long jump recording 5.71m.

In the women's events Isabelle Whitehead won the B 400m hurdles race, clocking 70.8 seconds and Wednesday Pywowariw achieved first place in the B Long Jump with a leap of 4.66m.

Chelsea Brockett notched up a new personal best time in the 400 m hurdles, crossing the finish line third and recording an impressive 68.7 seconds.

She also added second place points in the pole vault, clearing 2.60m and third in the high jump, leaping 1.50m.

Melanie Bristow claimed a good third place in javelin with a throw measured at 29.12m and also finished in second place in the B 100m hurdles race in a time of 20.4 seconds.

Thrower Wayne Clarke exceeded 50 metres yet again with the hammer landing the 7.25k implement 50.70m for an excellent second place and also contributed valuable points in shot (10.38m) B second , Javelin (32.69m) B fourth and Discus (26.62m) B fifth.

Haden Brittain impressed in the B Hammer securing second position with a 34.80m effort and Mark Bridges was second in long jump with a leap of 6.56m.

Haden also finished third in triple jump with a clearance of 12.28m. Stephan Brockett went over 1.65m in high jump for runners up spot in the B contest and added a third in the B pole vault with a clearance of 3.50m.

Stephan's javelin throw of 34.47m. earned him fourth place points before he made a valuable contribution to the Gold Tops' relay performances.

Stuart Smith was fifth in the discus 33.50m, 400m Hurdles (66.7 secs) and the shot putt (10.61m) and the distance runners Edgars Sokolovsris, Chris Rainbow, Dennis Rainbow and Owen Msimango produced determined performances.

In the sprints, Ollie Phillips and Luke Chester gained valuable experience at north of England league level.

Karl Wright and Jeremy Baily supplied excellent support in a range of track events with Tonya Robinson (30.94m) and Amy Bristow (25.16m) claiming fourth and third respectively in the hammer contests and added value in the shot 8.56m/6.75m and the Discus 17.20m/12.82m.

For the women's section, Isabelle Whitehead achieved 9.64m for fourth in triple jump with Amy Bristow claiming second in the B event with a leap of 7.85m.

Jasmine Orrey cleared 4.78m for fifth in long jump and together with Danielle Harrison contributed well in the sprints.

Boston and District A.C officials will be hoping that the club can field a full strength side for the last match in the series next month.
