I HAVE read with interest the views of people who, like myself, have used Lincoln Dancentre for the past eight years and feel I must add my own view.

For me, my journey with Dave McGregor, Kath and Lois started many years ago.

My children, Matthew (now almost 22), Sarah (almost 21) and Robert (16) started ballroom, Latin and line dancing lessons with Dave when Matthew and Sarah were just five and four years of age.

Robert, I remember, joined in at the tender age of three-and-a-half, tapping out the beat and marking time.

Over the years they developed, entering competitions in Manchester and taking medal after medal with lovely trophies which I proudly display for all to see.

I myself have line danced with Dave for many years and remember travelling round to different village halls for lessons before the Dancentre was born.

He is without doubt a brilliant teacher. He is patient, kind and very funny, with a unique way of teaching which enables you to remember the steps with ease.

That fateful night nearly two weeks ago – when he announced the centre's closure – stunned me with others alike so my feet could no longer continue dancing. It was like someone had stuck a knife in me.

I am so pleased Lois Baker (July 24) has decided to take over the reins and re-open those doors.

The floor is like nowhere else – it is superb.

There is nowhere else in Lincoln or the surrounding areas where a line dance social is held weekly.

A catastrophe has been avoided.

Having been banned from a dance in Lincoln through no fault of my own, I went to the Lincoln Dancentre and was welcomed by Dave McGregor, his staff and friends from the past.

It was a pleasure and many happy hours were spent with Dave learning new dances in this pleasant environment.

I wish Dave all the very best for the future and thank him for all the good times of the past.

I am writing about Dave McGregor's helpers.

First Kath, without whom Dave would not have been able run the club. She was wonderful from day one.

Trevor was Dave's right-hand man and always made sure everything was running smoothly at all times - from putting up decorations to helping with all general maintenance.

Then we have Phillip and the late Phyl, who was in full charge of all the shopping needed to run a place as big as the centre.

We have known Dave for 45 years and lived very near him for 25 years, so I am losing a very dear friend as well as dance teacher. Dave, you will be missed.

June and Trevor Sewell Hamilton Road, North Hykeham.

I've just read your article (July 24) about Lois Baker reopening the Dancentre and felt I had to write to tell you how pleased I am that someone is taking it over.

Lois is so young to be taking on the business, but I'm sure she will make a success of it.

Many dancers will be very grateful for her bravery, so I wish her all the luck in the world.

Kathy Marker Lincoln.
