Lincoln City caretaker manager Grant Brown has said he will consider whether to apply for the top job after the club's next two games.

Grant, who is in his third spell as caretaker boss, said he has not applied to become David Holdsworth's successor but admitted he was more prepared to lead the club than he has been in the past.

Speaking at a press conference today he said: "We'll deal with the next two games – we've got a big game on Saturday against Barrow and if that goes right then an even bigger game on Tuesday against Mansfield.

"But then we'll think about it after that.

"My focus is just getting the boys right for the next two games."

Brown, who took temporary charge after Holdsworth's exit on Sunday, is confident about his knowledge of the squad's strengths and weaknesses.

"I know them pretty much inside out, but sometimes they get motivated by a fresh voice," he said.

"I'm a bit more relaxed, certainly than the first time, about it.

"I'm a lot more knowledgeable too.

"Certainly I've got a good insight with the players.

"I know what they are about and what makes them tick, so hopefully we'll get a good response on Saturday."

However, he remained coy when asked if he felt ready to take over the Imps full time.

"We'll see how the next two games go, see what the response from the players is and then assess it," he said.

“Hypothetically, what a shame John Ward wasn't available to be LCFC's new manager. I know he has gone on record as saying that " he would never return to Lincoln City FC " and so that is that. But, if only " all the stops had been pulled out " to try and persuade to become back as the manager, instead of appointing one of the main people to almost ruin the club, Chris Sutton.
    Hypothetical I know!

Fingers crossed for the Imps and more importantly, their very loyal supporters, get lucky this time.”

“For goodness sake leave Grant alone! He doesn't want the job, if he did he would have been knocking on Bob's door. Mind you if he had bee, knocking on Bob's door he would have had a long wait for an answer as the "chicken man" is on holiday, isn't he!?
Changing the subject, Grant rated Karl Cunningham, yet he's been allowed to go on loan to Lincoln United and what's happened to Geoffrey Gouveira - he looked really impressive when he was warming up at half time a few weeks ago!! And before I start worrying about the snow forcasted for Saturday, what's the betting (not that I am a betting man) of Paul Farman being back in goal at the weekend? I predict that we will scrape a win against Barrow, but loose significantly against Mansfield.”

“If I was Grant I would not go for it. Proved time and again however loyal to the club and however length of time service, once the results go against you the fans and board turn and want you out only popular with the fans while the results are good.Take Neil Wood at Grimsby as an example 20yrs service and then got the boot!!!”

“All well & good Chicken, but who looks after the youth whilst Grant oversees the 1st team?
And more to the point, what happens when Grant goes back to him or her?

Also very hard for any man to step down and still have the same motivation.”

“I hope that the players do Grant and Chris proud in the next two games and then the supporters will write his application for him.
As for offering him a contract as "ChickenBob" suggests, Grant know's he is in a results driven business and should City go down with him or anybody else at the helm then Lincoln City FC will need to work to an even smaller budget and Youth Team manager may be something we cannot afford.
So let's be positive and get behind the team for the rest of the season and make sure at the end of this season we can look to a more positive future at our football club.”

“Grant Brown is very popular with the fans and has proved himself to be a good manager of young players. He should have been the choice when Tilson left instead of Holdsworth. But you can understand Grant being reluctant. He must be wondering what would happen to him if things go wrong and he was lout of a job altogether.

The board should consider offering Grant a contract, with the cast-iron clause that if he loses the manager's job, he can still stay working for the club in his old role. This would save the Club money as (if things did go wrong) there would be no big compensation payouts to worry about, and Grant would still have a job.”
