The donations, requested by the hospital, were approved at the league of friends' Annual General Meeting (AGM).

EAU consultant Dr Shirine Boardman, who attending the meeting on behalf of the hospital, said: "I am really impressed with all the work which the League of Friends of Grantham Hospital undertakes.

"The fundraising which has enabled nearly £17,000 worth of equipment to be donated is wonderful, but the behind the scenes work of the volunteers at the hospital radio station, in the charity shop and the volunteer drivers is a marvellous contribution.

"The hospital is so grateful."

League of Friends chairman Simon Needham said the group was pleased to be able to donate such a large sum to benefit patients.

"The charity's AGM has become the focus for our major gifting programme in recent years, and we were delighted Dr Boardman was able to join us this year.

"We receive requests for equipment at other times of the year and usually they can be accommodated within our budget – but this does depend on the ongoing generosity of our many supporters in the Grantham area, to whom we always grateful."
