Grantham headteacher pays tribute to teenager Emily Challen who died in A1 crash
The Grantham headteacher of teenager Emily Challen, who died in a crash on the A1 this morning, has described the tragic 17-year-old as a 'truly beautiful young person'.
Sixth-former Emily, of Church Lane, Long Bennington, was one of four pupils from Kesteven & Grantham Girls' School (KGGS) in a car which was in collision with a heavy goods vehicle on the slip road of the A1 southbound at Long Bennington.

Headteacher Graham Burks has posted his poignant comments on the school's website home page.
He says: "A tragic accident occurred this morning involving four of our students whilst travelling to school.

"We believe one of the girls sustained a broken wrist, two were largely unharmed but, tragically, one did not survive.
"Emily Challen of Year 13 has been taken from us.
"The school community is devastated.
"Emily was one of our House Captains, an iconic figure the girls admired and aspired to be like.
"She was very bright, very kind, a true leader amongst our students, and a truly beautiful young person.
"We were all immensely proud of her. She was greatly loved throughout the school community.
"Our thoughts go out to her family and friends."
Mr Burks also highlights that Lincolnshire Police and Emily's family are asking people not visit the site of the accident.
He says on the website: "The police have been very supportive of the school and families involved in today's tragedy.
"They are now anxious that family and friends do not visit the site of the accident to lay flowers for Emily or any other expressions of sympathy.
"They and Emily's family have asked that we all save our flowers for another day.
"They are genuinely concerned for road safety."
