THE sight of alcohol being drunk on the streets of Boston could be a thing of the past if a campaign group gets its way.

Boston North West Action Group (BNWAG) has launched a bid to have a town-wide ban imposed as is already seen in some areas of the country including Kensington, Chelsea and Windsor.

The group has lined-up a meeting with Boston Borough Council chief executive Richard Harbord to discuss the issue and is now asking for residents views on the proposal.

BNWAG chairman Roy Williams told the Target: "This campaign is to achieve a total ban on all public areas in the entire populated town of Boston.

"Alcohol banned zones do not work and only exist to give public drinkers leeway to indulge themselves elsewhere.

"In 2010 it is something like 1810 on our streets seeing cans and bottles dumped in large numbers.

"It has become normal to see young men sipping from a can of strong beer while walking with a girl and child, or groups in a huddle guzzling from giant blue bottles of cheap cider at all hours of the day.

"I am embarrassed for visitors that wonder why a small town like this cannot deal with this problem.

"A total ban will send a message to the few spoiling the quality of life for the rest is over.

"Litter will reduce street violence and domestic violence also.

"The message will be if you want to drink alcohol do it in a pub club or at home not in public or face the full weight of the law. No warnings, zero tolerance."
