Lincoln will become 'Little Italy' for two days this summer.

The Italian weekend, organised by Lincoln Business Improvement Group, will embrace all aspects of the country's culture and cuisine and transform Lincoln for one weekend in June.

Lincoln will become a Mediterranean delight, with a Venetian gondola taking pride of place on the river near Mayfield Bridge, off City Square, complete with the traditional gondolier.

The bridge itself will be made to look like Venice's Rialto bridge thanks to the efforts of pupils at Kesteven and Sleaford High School.

Lincoln BIG events manager Michael Armstrong said: "It is a huge event.

"Hopefully we will be able to hold more events like this in the future.

"We've got the school involved and I think they're very enthusiastic.

"It is very exciting, the city is going to be transformed."

An ever increasing list of attractions means every part of the city will have something to offer over the weekend festival starting on June 5.

The idea started to blossom after the Lambretta Club of Great Britain decided to hold an international Lambretta Jamboree in Lincoln.

A spokesman for the Lambretta Club of Great Britain said: "Lincoln really ticked all the boxes of what we were looking for.

"We spent about six months looking all over the country at show grounds and race courses and Lincoln seemed like the ideal place."

For more detail on the festival, see Friday's Echo.

“m - This is awful, I hope they aren't taking the swans for consumption. Maybe to put on their own ponds? I don't think so. I thought all swans were the property of the Queen. Off with their heads!”

“Let's hope it's a nice day, and that it's not spolied by all of the people that are stealing the Brayford Swans to eat!

Seriously, the Echo should look into it - I work near the Brayford, and we get no end of reports of men coaxing Swans towards them with Bread and then wrapping them up in a coat and running off with them! I'm surprised there hasn't been a fist fight yet - I think people are just so stunned when they see it they do nothing! SAVE THE SWANS!”
