AVIATION enthusiasts are invited to the launch of the East Lindsey Aviation Heritage guide.

Produced by East Lindsey District Council, the guide introduces readers to East Lindsey's rich aviation history, pinpointing active RAF stations and former airfield sites throughout the district, as well as giving information on their history.

To launch the booklet, the district council is hosting a talk by aviation historian, Howard Heeley, on 'Aviation Connections in East Lindsey', taking place on Tuesday, March 5 from 7pm at the Petwood Hotel, Woodhall Spa.

The Petwood Hotel itself has history associated with the RAF, having once been home to 617 Squadron, The Dambusters.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the famous Dambusters' raid which is regarded as one of the one of the world's most daring bombing raids.

Admission to the event is free; however tickets must be booked in advance.

Speaker and aviation historian, Howard Heeley, who has written the guide, said: "I was delighted to be asked by East Lindsey District Council to undertake the work to research and compile an aviation heritage guide."

"Whilst visiting the various sites to take photographs and check details I was really struck by the sense of history and emotion that still connects the sites, with the personnel that served there; and in some cases that still serve there.

"Hopefully the new guide will encourage people to visit these locations for themselves."

The guide will be available at Tourist Information Centres across the district or to download from www.visitskegness.com. For details call 01507 613115 or email karen.edwards@e-lindsey.gov.uk
