A CYCLIST says she is lucky to be alive after a hit-and-run driver left her battered and bruised by the side of the road.

Supermarket shelf stacker Sharon Bailey, 45, was riding along the cycle track near Ruston Sports & Social Club, in Newark Road, Lincoln, when she was hit by a car and thrown over the handlebars of her bike.

Some of the injuries Sharon Bailey suffered.

She sprained her right wrist, bruised her right arm, scraped her right leg and suffered bruising to her lower back and is off work for the foreseeable future.

"Whoever has done this knows they have hit me and driven off, leaving me there," said mum-of-one Miss Bailey, of Boundary Street, Lin coln, who works at Asda in North Hykeham.

“When I was cycling in Holland there was a rule that if a car hit a cyclist they wold be immediately charged with the full might of the law.

We have a pathetic and underperforming justice system. The police know they are a joke when it comes to prosecuting this type of crime.”

“Why cars use cycle tracks beggars belief. It is no wonder cyclists use the pavements. But then, that's Lincoln for you. And then again, North Hykeham has become a town in its own right for all of the housing development being built.
Have a speedy recovery Sharon and hope the police catch the motorist and prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law. Don't forget to claim the compensation owning to you, etc.”
