THE organiser of a Heart and Mind Valentine’s Charity Ball and Auction has successfully exceeded her fundraising target as well as raising money for local charities.

Kate Cook, from Sleaford, who will also run the London Marathon this year for her chosen charity – Mind – attracted 85 guests to the event at the New Life Conference Centre on Saturday, February 16, and raised £1,841 from the night.

Kate said: “I was thrilled that 85 people paid to attend the ball and it means so much to me to raise money for Mind as I have suffered from mental illness and have phoned Mind for help and advice on occasions.”

Kate is still to cash in pledges of money from the sale of the auction items and she believes the total amount will rise to more than £2,000 once this has been collected.

Entertainment on the night included Sleaford magician Scott Perry, local duo Frankly Mr Shankly and West End stage and TV star Gavin Alex who sang hits from West End shows with Lucy Hope Borne.

Kate added: “Gavin and Lucy were simply amazing on the night and it was wonderful to have such fantastic talent bringing the West End to Sleaford for the night.”

A three-course meal was cooked and served by local volunteers and all proceeds from the meal and bar went to local charities: Sleaford Food Bank, The Junction, Sleaford Youth Centre, CAP Money and Senior Citizens Special Events.

The tables at the event were sponsored by local businesses and by families in memory of loved ones.

Kate is training for the London marathon by running at 6am every morning and is in regular contact with 233 other Mind Virgin London Marathon runners.
