Heartfelt gratitude for level of care witnessed at Pilgrim Hospital
PLEASE see a letter sent to the Secretary of State for Health following the loss of my mother-in-law Peggy Steels...
I feel compelled to write to inform you of the level of care bestowed on my late mother-in-law Mrs Peggy Frances Steels whilst a patient at Boston Pilgrim Hospital from Monday, July 29 to Saturday, August 3 of this year.
She was a patient in Ward 5A (surgical) following a morning admission on July 26.
After initial investigation in A and E she was transferred to Ward 5A. Diagnosis led to a suspected tumour in her digestive tract. Surgery revealed that there was indeed a tumour - which was inoperative and she sadly died on Saturday, August 3.

The main purpose of this letter is to express the family's gratitude to the team on Ward 5A who cared so wonderfully for her.
I have attempted to mention everyone concerned but am aware that some people have inadvertently been missed, this applies particularly to the surgical team.
The entire team (from the cleaners and tea lady through the nurses, to the consultant surgeon and anaesthetist) demonstrated constant concern and the utmost care and even affection toward Peggy.
The nursing team engaged in a very reassuring and personable style toward her at a time when she was frightened and confused. Peggy was also registered blind so the high level of care was really appreciated.
So much so that Peggy remarked on very many occasions how kind everyone concerned was toward her.
At a time when Pilgrim Hospital and indeed the National Health Service as a whole is under close scrutiny it is important that you know that at a grass roots level the people involved in patient care are as dedicated and professional as taxpayers would want them to be.
On behalf of our family I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for such a high level of care not only for Peggy but also for the consideration, understanding and kindness shown to the family who were in daily attendance at the hospital.
