Help on hand to stay warm and well this winter in Lincolnshire

Lincolnshire County Council and its partners are again running the Responders To Warmth (R2W) scheme this winter.

Practical support such as handy-man services, insulation, heating repairs, emergency heaters, boiler replacements and draught-proofing could be provided, as well as advice on energy efficiency and how to prevent slips, trips and falls.

To be eligible for the services on offer you need to live in Lincolnshire, have a combined household income of less than £23,500, combined savings of less than £10,000, and suffer with a chronic, acute or long term illness or disability. Alternatively you could be in receipt of a state benefit including Child Tax Credit, Pensioner Credit or income support.

Executive Councillor for Health, Housing and Community, Sue Woolley said:

"This is such a worthwhile scheme. The people we helped last year said they felt healthier and more cared for, and we will be using this funding to help in even more communities this year.

"Because this is a one-off grant, we will also be looking at how we can develop longer-term ways of minimising the effects of cold housing and fuel poverty in communities in the future."

The money has been awarded through the government's Warm Homes Healthy People fund for 2012/13. The fund aims to protect individuals and communities from the effects of severe winter weather due to cold housing. More than 70,000 people are in fuel poverty in Lincolnshire and 28,000 heating systems fail every year. 40% of Lincolnshire residents live in 'off the gas' older dwellings that are hard to heat and treat.

Responders to Warmth (R2W) act on behalf of Lincolnshire County Council, and managed by Lincolnshire Community Foundation in partnership with the seven local authorities as the Home Energy Lincs Partnership or Help and Lincolnshire Home Improvement Agency.
