Mark Hildred secured his first Lincolnshire County Closed Squash Championships men's open title for 20 years, in Boston last weekend, and also scooped victories in two other events.

The 45-year-old from Swineshead also won the over-35s for the 10th time – a competition record – and the over-45s event for the first time. His win in the open was his eighth success. It was also the first ever men's treble in the Lincolnshire County Championships.

"I played nine games in two days which was pretty exhausting, but one of the reasons I have carried on playing squash is to keep fit," said Hildred, 45, who still plays for the county.

"I only entered the main men's competition at the last minute and I have not played in that for 10 years, as once I reached 35, I concentrated on that category.

"I knew I stood a chance of winning in the other categories but to win the main men's event too was a great feeling."

In the women's event, it was a family affair with Fran Wallis defeating her daughter Sophie in the final, 9-2, 10-9, 9-3. The over-55s men's title went to Paul Tudor.

A healthy over-55s draw began with an incredibly long and competitive match between Stephen Holloway and Rob Sutton with the latter eventually progressing into the quarter-finals 8-10, 9-3, 9-3, 9-4.

In the quarters, Bert Cotter and Paul Tudor beat Rob Sutton and Dave Parsons 3-0 respectively, while Bob Pearson overcame three-quarter seed Phil Hiatt.

The match of the round came when Alan Beal beat Ian Brown in a five set affair. Tudor beat Alan Beal 9-1, 9-3, 5-9, 9-2 in the final.

Hildred beat Andy Simpson 9-2, 9-4, 9-7 to take the over 45s title in his first year in the category.

In the over-35s, Ady Proctor sustained an injury to his finger during the second game of the final after being hit by Hildred's racket and retired at 9-4, 8-5 down.

In the men's open tournament, Hildred beat number two seed Dean Hiatt 11-9, 11-6, 7-11, 11-6.

Finally, Graeme Williamson won the main plate with Chris Martin finishing as runner-up, while John Mackenzie beat Jason Green in the senior plate final.
