The group of friends walked from Sleaford to Lincoln for the Meningitis Research Foundation.
Debbie contracted streptococcal septicaemia at the age of 24, just six weeks after giving birth to her second son.
Chanel’s friend Hannah Skilling from Sleaford also joined the walking party after losing her aunt, Alison Godfrey, to septicaemia in 2012. Hannah’s children Abi, 13, and Gemimah, 11, and Chanel’s children Sammie-Lee, 17 and Liberty 14, were amongst the group that took part in the 25-mile spire and steeples route on Saturday.

Chanel said: “We had a few mishaps along the way – Liberty’s shoe sunk in the mud and Sam lost her phone so it was quite an eventful day.
“Liberty underwent major hip surgery last April so I was amazed she was able to do it.
“Branston down to Canwick Hill seemed to take forever. When we got to Canwick Hill I was ready to give up but seeing the cathedral in sight gave us the push.
“It was a fun day, the kids did us all proud.”
Chanel is now hoping to make the fundraiser an annual event and hopes their efforts will help to raise awareness of meningitis and septicaemia.
She said: “We wanted to do something in their (Debbie and Alison’s) memory.
“A lot of people think meningitis only affects babies. People can be hit at any age and it can kill within hours.”
Chanel is still collecting sponsor money and counting the bucket donations that were received along the route.
