Holland was well worth wait
Jools Holland Embassy Theatre, Skegness, as part of the SO Festival, Thursday
FOR myself and many others the name Jools Holland alone would provide review enough.
Few would expect less than enigmatic, soul- thumping and swinging live performances. And I had waited all my life to experience this first hand.
But let me assure you from the start, the boogie woogie, without a doubt, rolled, rolled and rolled some more. The blues were almost navy, mouths dropped at the dexterous skill of Jools' piano playing and lyric writing, and the rhythm and blues band really are the most talented group of uber cool misfits you could imagine.
The rest of the band all had their turn in the spotlight, including brother Christopher Holland.
Other highlights included Lincolnshire-based drummer Gilson Lavis.
Special guests, Ruby Turner and Marc Almond, were the icing on the cake. Ruby being every bit the sultry, velvet-mouthed diva I expected.
