Hollywood actor Colin McFarlane to judge national speaking competition in Lincoln
Hollywood actor and the voice of ITV's The Cube, Colin McFarlane, will help judge a national public speaking competition.
Young orators from schools across the country will come to Lincoln on Friday, June 22, to be judged by the Lincolnshire actor, best-known for his booming and distinctive voice.
He will be joined on the judging panel by the University of Lincoln's Dr Jacqui Briggs, a principal lecturer in politics, and the English Speaking Union's (ESU) Bill Ramsay.
The competition itself is hosted by both the city's university and the ESU. It will see 18 students from Year 12 gather in the city to demonstrate their verbal velocity.
It will see teams of three – a chairman, speaker and questioner – attempt to impress the judging panel on a topic to be given on the day.
The winning team will be rewarded with a tour of the Houses of Parliament and the House of Lords alongside tea with Lincoln MP Karl McCartney and the chancellor of the university, Lord Victor Adebowale.
