Homeless and elderly find A&E 'only place to go'
Homeless and elderly people are turning up

Accident and Emergency departments because they cannot get treatment elsewhere.
Consultant, Jai Pillay said A&E staff were seeing a growing number of elderly people with non-urgent conditions.
But they come to A&E as a last resort as there is nobody to care for them at home.
The distressing situations witnessed by doctors and nurses are recorded as 'social problems' at United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust's A&E departments.
From April to December 2008 the trust recorded 756 such incidents – a 13 per cent increase from the 670 cases recorded in the same period in 2007.
Mr Pillay said: "It is very sad that many elderly people who have had a minor fall then have to resort to coming to A&E as they cannot look after themselves at home.
"People who are homeless and don't have anywhere else to go also come in.
"A&E is for everyone but if everybody turns up the people who need us more urgently will get delayed."
The figures also show that bites and stings are down, alcohol poisoning is down but asthma attacks are up.

“My elderly step mother ask for her local GP to visit her due to a medical problem. He failed to turn up so her husband rang again. A locum turned up, had no medical records for her, took one look, and sent for an ambulance.
The ambulance arrived and the doctor went somewhere else. The medics put her into their vehicle but the engine failed. Because there was no other ambulance available, the crew radioed in for a mechanic who came later to deal with the problem. This was while my step mother was inside the ambulance.
They took her to A and E at the hospital and left her to be seen.
She was still in her night dress and was not seen for a couple of hours despite the emergency and being 86 years old.
When she was seen ,the doctor took one look at her, decided that she was OK, and told her to go home.
She was left bewildered and confused of what to do.
She was advised to ring a neighbour to be picked up from hospital as all of the ambulances were being used elswhere.
When she eventually returned home, her husband ask what treatment she received and she said nothing.
Two days later, she was rushed to hospital with breathing problems but this time was admitted and is on oxygen. She is still there.
Who cares about the old folk anymore when they become ill.
Doctors don't visit - you have to go to them because they won't come to you (beyond three score years and ten)!
This happened in Westen Super Mare last week.”

“Wonder how many other mis facts you are going to use? I'll say this one last time, and hopefuly those who can't read can get a friend to explain it, the NHS do not give free treatment to people from other countries. We have a reciprical agreement with the EU so it balances out and we often claim payment from the country of origin. This is the case with people coming from overseas who are not within the EU. Believe me as I work with the chap whose job it is to do this.
As for migrants taking everything, that is your own view but has nothing to do with the NHS.”

“The obvious answer to this issue then is to have a Social Worker based in A&E for the "social problems"

“What about the migrants that come here and after a couple of months bring their children over that need very expensive surgery. I suspect this costs more than the migrants that 'don't use the service before they leave' put in!!!
I know of 2 cases of Lincoln migrants where they have purposefuly brought their children over to have treatment that costs in excess of £50,000!!! Cleft Pallet & Hole in the Heart. They weren't indured in their own country and so came here, worked for a few months, then brought their children over and went part time!!!
I get tired of all the 'they put in before they get the benefit' claims on here.
I have put in for 17 years and am watching it all disappear so that migrants can come, moan about Britain, Get their kids sorted out and then go home to their own country.
