Houlton wins first round of SPRO Fossdyke Individual League
SPRO FOSSDYKE SATURDAY LEAGUE
More than 40 anglers competed in the first round of the SPRO Fossdyke Individual League and spirits were high after the recent good form shown in the Fossdyke Canal Championships.
This competition is a series of 10 matches based on section points with the best six results counting towards the final score.
On the day the canal did not disappoint with a minimum of 6lb 12oz being required to win a section and an average weight of 4lb 13oz per angler recorded.
The winner on the day was Fossdyke regular Alan Houlton (Garbolino/Harrisons Lincs County) from peg 83.
This peg is well known for its huge pleasure catches of bream and perch but it can also be extremely unreliable.
On his way to the peg, Alan was not the most optimistic, but this soon withered away when a string of skimmers and roach found their way to his net while fishing bloodworm over joker.
A later switch to lob worm and dendra on his 14.5m line resulted in two large bream of around 4lb each.
This boosted Alan to his final weight of 18lb 4oz and the victory on the day of the event.
In second place was Alan's team mate Dale Wheelan (Garbolino/Harrisons Lincs County) on the next peg 81 with 10lb 9oz.
Dale's catch was made up of roach, perch and skimmers on bloodworm over joker.
In joint third place was Frankie Gianoncelli (Sheffield) from peg 80 and Chris Jenkinson (Van Den Eynde) peg 36, both with 9lb 3oz.
HYKEHAM AC
Members of the Hykeham AC visited their club waters at the weekend to fish a club match.
The winner of this event was Mark Willacott from peg four.
Fishing the maggot feeder, with red maggot on the hook, Mark caught four decent carp and a tench for a final weight of 26lb 13oz.
This was just enough to secure first place.
Just behind the winner was Keith Hall who finished just short with a weight of 26lb 5oz.
Keith fished the pole at 11 metres and caught four carp and a skimmer on red maggot from peg 19.
Third place was secured by Phil Kirk at peg 32 with 12lb 14oz.
The next club match is November 8 on the George Fischer Lakes.
RUSKINGTON SERIES
Last Sunday saw a Ruskington Club match take place at Manor Lake and 11 anglers braved the windy conditions to compete in this match.
Michael Bond was the eventual winner.
Mike drew peg 22 and had a winning weight of 108lb 9oz which he caught by fishing pellet on the long pole to the island and also fishing down the track.
Dave Daniels finished in second spot from peg two.
Dave caught on six metres of pole on meat and finished with a weight of 90lb 4oz.
Trevor Tute took third position.
Trev caught on meat at peg 18 and weighed 77lb 14oz. Paul Mosley was fourth with 67lb 14oz from peg 16.
Barry Gadsby is running open matches from the Moon Lake Complex throughout the winter and the first of these matches is this Sunday, November 1 on Marsh Lake. The draw takes place at 8.30am.

LINCOLN VETERANS
The low peg numbers seemed to be the place to draw for the 24 anglers who turned out for the Den Daley Memorial Trophy last week at Marsh Lake.
The winner of this competition was Trevor Wilkinson who drew peg four and won the match with 26lb 9oz.
Trevor caught on pellet on the pole. Jim Baggeley finished second on peg three.
Jim fished the feeder with pellet tight to the far bank to land 27lb 12oz.
Third position was taken by Derek East from peg six who fished corn on the bomb to the far bank.
JK MIDWEEK SERIES
Last week saw the latest match of the series take place at Thimbleby Lake Two and it was John King who showed the field how it was done.
John drew consistent peg 12 and fished pellet on the pole to finish the day with 47lb.
This proved to be double that of the next angler who was Paul Mosley.
Paul also fished pellet on the pole and ended up with a weight of 27lb 03oz from peg nine.
Malc Green (SPRO Lincoln Whisby AC) finished in third place from peg five.
