Hundreds give their opinions on £20m plans for congestion-busting city link road
HUNDREDS of people have responded to a council plea for comments on a proposed £20 million congestion-busting road through Lincoln.
Highways officials say plans for the east-west link road have been well received during the public consultation period, which ends today.

The proposed east-west link will run from Tritton Road to Canwick Road, via Tentercroft Street.
The results are expected to be revealed by the authority next month, with a planning application submitted by January.
It is hoped building work will begin in the next three years.
Proposals for the project, stretching from Tritton Road to Canwick Road and Pelham Bridge, were unveiled by Lincolnshire County Council in July.
East-west link road senior project leader Les Davies said: "The events and consultation period for the east-west link proved to be popular and we would like to thank everyone for their much-valued input.
"After receiving lots of feedback, in person, by phone, post and online, the early indications are our proposals for the road have been well received.
"All views will now be taken into consideration as the design is developed in readiness for submitting a planning application early next year."
As reported in the Echo, cash for the project is expected to be provided by a number of sources, including Network Rail.
But the county council has warned tough economic pressures could make it harder to secure funding.
Mr Davies said: "We welcome any final contributions on the last day of the consultation today and look forward to taking a step closer towards improving transport links across the city, reducing traffic congestion, noise and vibration, all while allowing the continued improvement of public transport, walking and cycling facilities."
Up to 20 businesses could be forced to sell their current premises to make room for the new route.
The companies based in and around Tentercroft Street and the High Street would have to be compensated by the county council.
Residents living in the Maze area of Sincil Bank have also expressed concerns about access.
The road proposal includes shutting off part of Portland Street to vehicles, plus pedestrianising more of High Street.
Mel Rix, owner of Rix Bathrooms, in High Street, said: "We are quite happy with the road. If we have to move, we have to move."
Labour county councillors for Lincoln Nev Jackson and Kev Clarke have also pledged their support to the east-west link road.

“No Idea they had consultation, I live in cenral lincoln!!! near football ground, down the road from Tentercroft st. We have been saying for years they should do this. Should have done it after they knocked the houses at the bottom of Cross Street down.”

“'Hundreds' of responses sounds very poor in a city of 70k+.
I got a questionnaire stuffed through my door. As I don't live particularly near Tentercroft St, I assume these questionnaires went out to everyone in the city. Yet only 'hundreds' (suggesting less than 1000) responded.
Hope they build it soon but, considering the way budgets are stretched at the minute, I would be very surprised.”

“Why does this take so long? How long have discussions been ongoing for about the location? Surely the top council bosses drive through the city and see what a mess Lincoln is.
The A46 link to Newark was the best highway link for Lincoln in recent years. The original A46 bypass was built making a massive difference also.
The City is crying out for this. Question.. Why was the original plan of Waddington ruled out because a few hundred locals went against it? When if the question had gone out in the centre of Lincoln, thousands would have gone in favour? Nobody wants a massive road near them - but everyone loves the idea of it.
Lets please get on with the road, and remove congestion from the city centre - which may also give the council another problem - removing stupid one-way systems that 'locals' have to put up with.
Thanks for reading - Adam.”
