Hunt for cyclist after kitten is thrown into River Witham in Boston
AN animal welfare charity has condemned the despicable act of a cyclist who threw a kitten into the River Witham.
The RSPCA is appealing for information after the animal was saved by passer-by who witnessed the incident taking place.

It happened in Boston at around 5pm on October 30 at Witham Bank West – on the footpath which runs along the river bank.
A cyclist was seen throwing a carrier type bag into the river. A passerby, who witnessed the incident, went over to investigate and found a tiny ginger and white kitten inside the bag.

They managed to pull the kitten out of the bag, and then contacted the RSPCA for help.
RSPCA Inspector Sarah Chambers, said: "This was a despicable act and one which makes me so angry that someone can just throw a kitten into a river like a piece of rubbish.
"Thankfully this poor mite was rescued by a passer-by who was thankfully in the area at the right time and was able to act quickly and save the kitten just in time."
The male kitten, who is only around six to seven weeks old, was taken to a nearby vet for a check up, but despite being wet and very cold, he appears to have no other health problems.
It is understood the rescuer has now decided to keep the kitten and offer him a loving new home.
Inspector Chambers added: "I am still investigating this incident and I would urge anyone with information about this incident to contact me on the RSPCA inspector appeal line on 0300 123 8018."

“So the police are looking for a 'cyclist'? Good luck with that. Would be better to know if it was a man/woman/child or establish other identifying aspects like age, height, ethnicity etc, rather than just their mode of transport.
Labelling the person as a 'cyclist' isn't going to help much unless the objective is to demonise everyone who rides a bike.
Or maybe it's just very bad journalism.”

“You know what else they used to do in olden days hurculese, dunk unwanted kittens in a bucket of water, or flush them down the loo. At least this one stood a fighting chance. Glad it has a home with the big hearted person who rescued it.”
