Hykeham pull off Lincoln win
Hykeham could only manage 18 points against a much improved Lincoln 4th XV, who boasted lots of young skilful players in their starting line-up.
Even though Hykeham stopped Lincoln from scoring on the day, they still made hard work of their victory through missed tackles and silly passes going astray.
All Hykeham could manage in the first half were three points from the boot of Quinlan.
Ten minutes into the second half, and following a revised game-plan, Munton scored the first try of the game.
Hykeham came alive after that, but were subdued by Lincoln's defence in the open.
The second score came from a penalty, ten metres away from Lincoln' try line, when Jordan Beaumont received the ball, spotted a gap and threw himself at the line for Hykeham's second try.
With 10 minutes left in the game, neither side slowed down and were still playing with a lot of intensity.
Hykeham had a lot of the possession, but were still squandering too many chances to score points in the open play and were too flat in the attack.
But the final score came in Lincoln's 22 in the final few minutes of the game. All of Lincoln's defence were hungry for the ball and were going for a blitz defence.
Karl Ward noticed this and as the ball was played down the line, Beaumont took the tackle.
As he did, Ward came crashing through off his shoulder and took the offload which then left the try-line begging.
