Air raid sirens will be at the ready tonight after Lincoln City fans voted to keep The Dambusters March as the Sincil Bank anthem.

Club DJ Wayne "Casey" Casement appealed to supporters to choose a new song to welcome the Imps players onto the pitch after some fans labelled the traditional song, The Dambusters March, as boring.

But following a month long nomination and voting process to rival the Lincoln City board's search for a new manager, the fans have voted for the Dambusters to remain.

The song polled 36 per cent of the vote run by the Echo, the club and supporters' website Vital Lincoln, and comfortably beat Hi Ho Silver Lining to the top spot.

Jeff Beck's popular anthem secured 11 per cent of the vote with Blitzkrieg Bop by The Ramones in third place with nine per cent.

The Dambusters March will continue to be used, starting with City's home fixture with Notts County tonight.

Mr Casement said: "We will see how it goes. The Dambusters are important for the club and it's part of what people associate with Lincolnshire. I was never against the song and we tried a few different things after a small minority at the club complained. When Lincoln score we will play The Dambusters March and hopefully the fans will do the airplane actions."

Lincoln City FC chief executive Dave Roberts said: "We are delighted the poll has been run and the fans, as always, have had input at the football club. We look forward to hearing the song for many years."

Mr Roberts also revealed a familiar sound will be returning to the club's terraces tonight.

"We hope to get the air raid siren back in to the Stacey West Stand and that is very traditional with the club," he said.

“The Dambusters (617 Squadron) which was based at RAF Scampton from which they bombed the three German dams, was a moral booster during WW2.
But it was through to sheer determination and team building of the aircrews which led the mission to be a success.
Lincoln City Football team could learn from the Dambuster's experience of how the aircrew came together and did what they were instructed to do.
W/C Guy Gibson was their key man and leader.
Why cannot the manager of Lincoln City's football club show what football is all about as with what Guy Gibson did with 617 Squadron?
The football team needs to bond together, know their positions, play football for what they are paid for, and start scoring goals which is their mission.
Their goal is for promotion not ending up in the Conference League which will surely happen if they don't pull their socks up.
But then, are they learning from their mistakes and what happened in previous years?
The Dambuster's tune is an inspiration for one and all because Lincolnshire is not known as Bomber County for nothing!”

“I wish they would stop playing music when Lincoln score - I know it doesn't happen often but it's still annoying. We don't get massive crowds at Lincoln but I'd still rather listen to 3000 people going YEEEEESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!! than whatever guff they put on the tannoy. It always suggests to me that 'they' think the crowd noise isn't enough on its own.”

“It will make very little difference to me which anthem the team runs out to because the PA in the Co-op Stand is absolutely dreadful. The guy who sits next to me is convinced the tune is 'Is This The Way To Amarillo'”

“Glad that Lincoln City Football Club has retained the Dambusters tune.
Perhaps, they would like to be called The Dambusters as well, as being called the Imps has not got them any where is promotion and a reputation for years on end.
    Like to consider this too!”

“It had to be the Dambusters, but unfortunately there is not a single song in the world that is going to get all of the fans raring to go unless results improve... And yes I know the fans getting behind the team would help to improve the results...

Next up... The campaign to stop the club playing Bad Day whenever we lose. It was barely funny the first time, now it is just tedious.”

“The right choice as the rest of the tunes were not exactly riveting to say the least.
God luck to Mr Sutton as he will deffo need it with this squad. Personally I would have gone for Pembo.”
