Lincoln City may receive nothing if Frecklington moves on
Lincoln City could be left empty-handed if former Imps midfielder Lee Frecklington leaves Peterborough United for Championship rivals Swansea.
The 24-year-old moved to London Road on a permanent deal from the Imps last May and is believed to have netted Lincoln around £175,000.

Lee Frecklington scores a goal for Lincoln City.
A sell-on clause was inserted into the deal but vice-chairman Bob Dorrian has revealed that City will not receive a penny unless the Swans, who were linked with an initial loan move for the midfielder last week, pay more than the fee Peterborough shelled out to the Imps for the Lincoln-born playmaker.
"For argument's sake if Peterborough had paid us £100,000 for Lee and then sold him for £200,000 – a £100,000 profit – we would receive 17.5 per cent of that profit," said Dorrian, who refused to disclose the amount Lincoln received for Frecklington.
"Then, you have to take into consideration that there are a number of ways Swansea could structure the deal, they could pay Peterborough so much after a certain number of appearances, so we are not expecting much money."

“The Phoenix club who have risen from the ashes in the way that Chester hope to are Aldershot who went bankrupt mid-season and started again in the Ryman (then Diadora) league. FC United and AFC Wimbledon are completely different stories being based on fan breakaways. Why do the media not understand this?”

“In business buying and selling is all about negotiation. If you demand your own way in everything you will never buy or sell a sausage.
This very morning one club has been wound up and three others given a deadline to pay up. It's only a matter of time before HM revenue make an example of a club or two. I'm thankful we are not among them.”

“"nothing better to do than nit-pick at every bit of news to come out of the Club.", sorry I'll go back to my debates about Kafka novels and the relevance of the insects. Fancy Lincoln fans debating issues about Lincoln”

“Shut up people you do know these things are called negotiations we probably tried to get a full sell-on-clause and Peterborough wouldn't have it they would only settle for a percentage of any profit they make on the player, which i think is fair, so deal with it if he had excelled and moved on for a couple of mill we still would have got a very nice amount but he hasn't set the league alight so us not receiveing much/anything reflects this fairly”

“The Echo could quite easily have put the headline as 'Lincoln City may get money if Frecklington moves on' or similar.
Why didn't they? Hits.”

“Cameron, a very sensible and well-thought out post! What a refreshing change (and I don't mean from your normal posts, but a 'refreshing change' from what others normally post!)
I don't post much on here these days, nor do I bother to read the posts very much either, because it seems that the various threads have been taken over by complete and utter morons who have nothing better to do than nit-pick at every bit of news to come out of the Club.”

“Wrong - most sell-on clauses are a percentage of the profit NOT straight "sell-ons".
From the FL website, the page about tribunals for players under 24:
"It is also usual for there to be a sell-on fee should the player be sold at a profit at any point in the future."
Also, just google - football "sell-on fee" profit" and see how many other deals are referred to as being on the profit.”

“Colin, please reveal your sources. I'm with Adam on this.
Of course, all things are negotiable but as a buying club if the player turns out to be not up to scratch and I sell him for half what I paid you, I certainly wouldn't want to be paying you a percentage of the whole deal.
Up the Imps”

“The loss of Grimsby should not be considered in a financial sense.
Ok, someone suggests we lose £30K if they drop from gate receipts.... but the reality of it is, that if our own manager somehow puts together a strong squad for next season, gets a few results together and keeps us riding in the top-7 most of the season with a view to a play-off battle, the gate numbers will rise far above what they currently are and we will be looking at making up any shortfall that Grimsby are losing us.
I think our board and manager should be more concerned about improving OUR team, rather than worrying about what financial loss it will be letting our biggest relegation challenger lose to us!
My biggest concern is not Grimsby, it is that not enough people will buy season tickets next season, which means less instant cash for the board to invest into new players over the summer months. We could be starting next season with only 1 or 2 new contracted players and a whole new host of loanees to fill in the gaps again, and it would be all OUR fault for not giving the club the big cash injection it needs from season tickets to allow bigger spending in the summer.”
