A PUBLIC inquiry to determine whether to allow an eight-turbine wind farm to be built in a rural landscape near Louth starts on Tuesday.

Energiekontor UK Ltd appealed to the secretary of state for non-determination into their application for a wind farm at Thacker Bank near Gayton le Marsh. The appeal was lodged after the council failed to determine the application within 16 weeks.

East Lindsey District Council's planning committee unanimously voted to refuse the application if they were to be the deciding authority.

The No Windfarm at Gayton action group and East Lindsey District Council will be represented at the public inquiry which has been scheduled for two weeks at Tedder Hall, Manby, starting on Tuesday at 10am. Melvin Grosvenor, who is assisting the NoWAG action group said: "There will be an opportunity for local residents to present their views and to submit to the inquiry a written summary of what they are going to say which they can read out at the inquiry. This must be provided to the inspector in advance in order for a timetable to be formed."

The inquiry is most likely to include a site visit where the inspector will visit residential properties to judge its effect.

Mr Grosvenor added: "We will be flying a blimp during the inquiry to show the inspector the height of the turbine and the visual effect it will have. NoWAG are putting forward a very robust case as are East Lindsey District Council to help protect this landscape and residential amenity."
