JADE WINDLEY heads into her latest tournament full of confidence following a recent victory in Portugal but admits a tough task awaits in Woking this week.

The Lincolnshire tennis player won a $10,000 doubles tournament in Portugal a fortnight ago and will be in both singles and doubles action in Surrey.

Windley has been drawn against British number four seed Naomi Cavaday in the first round of the lucrative $25,000 tournament today.

And Windley admits it will be a tough match that is more about experience than victory.

"It is going to be a very tough match against Naomi Cavaday – she is one of the top-ranked British players," said the 20-year-old from Tattershall Bridge.

"I beat her a few times in the junior ranks but in our last few matches she has beaten me.

"The match will be more about experience and competing hard on a big stage such as this.

"But I am in good form and very happy with my game.

"I got a great victory in Portugal playing doubles which has boosted my confidence."

The former British junior number one is particularly looking forward to the tournament as it brings her back on to her favoured surface of hard courts.

Windley is also keen to make the most of a tournament which she has gained entry to without being required to play through the arduous qualifying route.

"The LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) offers each player three wild-cards a year for tournaments and this week I was offered one for entry to Woking," said Windley.

"So it is a great opportunity for me to play in one of the larger tournaments and not need to play extra matches in qualifying.

"I have just finished my stint on grass courts and, although I don't mind the grass, I do prefer and enjoy hard courts more.

"It is a surface which has always suited my game best and I am glad to be back playing on it."

In the doubles event at Woking, Windley and her partner Anna Fitzpatrick have been drawn against British pairing Hope Johnson and Claire Ricketts.

Windley, a former Horncastle Grammar School pupil, is happy with the draw and expects to progress further with partner Fitzpatrick.

"Having got such a tough draw in the singles event, I was much happier with the doubles," she said.

"Anna (Fitzpatrick) and I have been playing well together of late, especially in Portugal, and following this draw I think we are looking to go far.

"If we get to the quarter-finals we will meet one of my former doubles partners, Jocelyn Rae, which could makes things interesting."
